Board Member - Gurkamal Brown

Gurkamal Brown is a student, activist, and business owner. She is currently attending Capilano University to obtain a Bachelor of Arts with a focus in Political Science. As an Indian and African-Canadian woman, Gurkamal speaks English, Punjabi, and French. 

 

Gurkamal is motivated to empower young women to make a meaningful and positive impact in their communities. She is passionate about standing up for equality and amplifying the voices of marginalized communities. Gurkamal has volunteered with several municipal and federal election campaigns to encourage youth to get involved with the democratic process and to advocate for progressive policies. She also devotes her time at Satguru Ram Singh Satsang Sikh Temple, where she mentors and teaches youth about embracing their faith and intersecting identities, while encouraging them to actively contribute to their communities through service.

 

Gurkamal is also the proud business owner of Fine Delectables Charcuterie, a vegan and vegetarian charcuterie business that sells custom, gourmet charcuterie boards. Since launching her business in September 2020, Gurkamal has expanded Fine Delectables Charcuterie and collaborated with other local, Black-owned business owners to create a network of empowered entrepreneurs.  

 

Gurkamal currently works at the Canadian Bar Association as an Outreach Officer, where she engages with lawyers and legal professionals to provide networking and professional development opportunities. In the future, Gurkamal aspires to pursue a career in federal politics so that she can continue to empower women, youth and people of colour.
