About The Event

Vancouver wouldn’t be the city it is today without the work of diverse women. We serve on council, plan our neighbourhoods, and staff our hospitals. We’re raising the next generation and designing technology to address present challenges. We work in all aspects of the economy and carry out 80% of unpaid work in the home. But as we support Vancouver, could Vancouver do more to support us?

On June 24, join us as we explore opportunities and barriers to women’s political participation in Vancouver and the hot button issues for this election season. The event will consist of two segments. First, our panel will speak to their civic engagement experiences, and the municipal issues they see as key to women’s success. From there, we’ll break out into a discussion of top election issues, and what municipal candidates can do to make Vancouver work for women and girls.

The event is free but registration is required. A light lunch and refreshments will be provided. If you would like to support our work, please consider donating to our organization.

The forum is sponsored by Women Transforming Cities and the Canadian Research Institute for the Advancement of Women, and the location generously donated by Adler University. Information gathered at this event will be used to inform this year's Hot Pink Paper campaign.

The Community Hall is located on the second floor and is accessible to people in wheelchairs, via the ground level elevator. Volunteers will be present at the main entrance to the university to direct attendees.

We encourage attendees to cycle or take public transit to this event, which is near Granville Street skytrain station. For those driving, underground pay parking is available.

If you require childcare subsidies or language assistance, please let us know as we are happy to accommodate this. Please note that gender-neutral washrooms are available at the university.
