Status of Women Project Update

Our joint project with the Canadian Research Institute for the Advancement of Women (CRIAW), “Taking action on systemic barriers to women’s participation in local government,” is underway! We are setting up meetings with key stakeholders to get the benefit of their knowledge and experience as we plan our strategy going forward. If you are willing to share your knowledge of your organizations or your work on women and girls in local government and in cities please contact us.

We will be forming an Advisory Group to provide us with guidance throughout the three years of the project, and are looking for volunteers who would be willing to devote their time and wisdom. The Advisory Group will meet two to three times per year, and we are looking for members who could commit to at least one and as many as three years. We are also looking for women who would be interested in being interviewed about their ideas for our project.

Are you interested in joining us in this exciting opportunity, or would you like more information? If so, please contact Rebecca Bateman, Project Manager, at rbateman@criaw-icref.ca. We are looking forward to hearing from you!

The work of WTC in Vancouver takes place on the stolen ancestral territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam Indian Band), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish Nation), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh Nation). We acknowledge the leadership of Indigenous peoples since time immemorial and seek to learn and unlearn our own colonial practices as we work in cities as sites of resistance.
