This June, members of WTC took a trip to Calgary to present at the Canadian Institute of Planners’ 2017 Conference: Building Resilience.

Ellen Woodsworth, Joy Masuhara, and Tasha Henderson gave a presentation entitled “Social Cohesion, Intersectionality, Creativity and Resilience: Experiences in Metro Vancouver and Beyond.” Speaking from their experiences participating on projects like the New Urban Agenda, the Women Friendly Cities Challenge, the Hot Pink Paper Municipal Campaign in Vancouver and the current three year with CRIAW “action on systemic barriers to women’s participation in local government” with Surrey and Vancouver , WTC challenged Planners from across the country to think critically about their work; incorporating an intersectional lens in order to build more cohesive, resilient and inclusive communities.

Thanks for having us, CIP!

The work of WTC in Vancouver takes place on the stolen ancestral territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam Indian Band), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish Nation), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh Nation). We acknowledge the leadership of Indigenous peoples since time immemorial and seek to learn and unlearn our own colonial practices as we work in cities as sites of resistance.
