SpeakUp Workshop

On June 15, 2017 WTC hosted the first SpeakUp series workshop for those interested in improving their confidence in public speaking. The event was held at the Dudoc Centre in Vancouver and was attended by 13 individuals from a variety of backgrounds. In the first part of the evening, Dr. Vaneeta Sandhu and Elena Starr shared their personal stories on how their have and continue to find their voices. This was followed by an activity where participants examined the negative thoughts that affect their confidence, and replaced them with more realistic and helpful ones. The event concluded with a relaxing guided visualization. The SpeakUp series will continue with at least four more workshops in the fall, each featuring a different guest speaker and a new skill to learn. Stay tuned!

The work of WTC in Vancouver takes place on the stolen ancestral territories of the xÊ·mÉ™θkÊ·É™yÌ“É™m (Musqueam Indian Band), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish Nation), and sÉ™lilwÉ™taɬ (Tsleil-Waututh Nation). We acknowledge the leadership of Indigenous peoples since time immemorial and seek to learn and unlearn our own colonial practices as we work in cities as sites of resistance.
