Organizational Statement in Support of Continued Ceasefire

Women Transforming Cities International Society was founded on the premise of creating cities where all women, girls and all equity-deserving genders can live full, safe and meaningful lives. We know that to do so, we require equitable access to services like housing, education and medical treatment, participation in decision-making and leadership, and for equity-seeking genders to be free from violence in the home and in public spaces.

People living in Palestine, Israel, and the surrounding region are being denied access to these very services. People are living without access to medical treatment, food, water and safety.

We support the Feminist Organizations Joint Appeal For Immediate Ceasefire In Gaza* led by Oxfam Canada’s: “The time for decisive action is now. Peace, human rights, and gender equality are imperatives that must inform the Canadian response to these current events, consistent with Canada’s Feminist International Assistance Policy.”

As an intersectional feminist organization, we stand against all forms and manifestations of oppression. This includes bigotry, including anti-Indigenous racism, Islamophobia, antisemitism, racism, misogyny, anti-queerness, transphobia, classism, ableism, and all other forms of hate. We are deeply concerned about the rise of Islamophobia and antisemitism in Canada and globally.

We know that local government is an important site of resistance that can influence both our municipal and federal governments. We know that the more voices that join in, the larger the impact. So, together, we continue to take action urging our local leaders, our municipal leaders, and our federal leaders to call a ceasefire now.
