Vancouver: a city for all women: the Women's Equity Strategy was approved unanimously by city council on Wednesday January 17th! It is fantastic to see solid support from VISION, NPA and GREENS on this important work. The Women's Equity Strategy will be implemented over the next ten years from 2018-2028. The city’s original Gender Equality Strategy was from 2005.

The strategy deals with issues faced by women in five priority areas:

  • Safety

  • Violence against women

  • Accessible quality childcare

  • Safe and affordable housing

  • Women's leadership and representation

The work of WTC in Vancouver takes place on the stolen ancestral territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam Indian Band), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish Nation), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh Nation). We acknowledge the leadership of Indigenous peoples since time immemorial and seek to learn and unlearn our own colonial practices as we work in cities as sites of resistance.
