Iraqi Women Transforming Governance

September 2019

With funding from the Government of Canada, the National Democratic Institute (NGDI) launched the Women's Advisory Boards Program aiming to promote women’s contributions to local government. As mentioned by NDI Senior Country Director, Ancuta Hansen, women in Iraq... "need courageous political leadership, laws, and programs meant to protect [them], and joint efforts to normalize women’s place in public and political roles.” Early this month, Ellen Woodsworth was the keynote speaker and facilitator at the launch of HERSTORY and the creation of the five Womens Advisory Boards in five provinces in Kurdistan.

These women are leading the way with their courage, intelligence and hard work are making a difference.
