OUR IMPACT

Check out some of our community’s impact highlights from the past year…

We also campaigned and supported our members in taking action on:

Supportive housing: When Vancouver City Council introduced a motion against supportive housing, WTC mobilized our community. We organized members to attend a rally, trained 10 members to speak at city council, and many more to write to their elected officials in opposition.

"Big thanks to WTC for the great mobilizing email. I drew on several of your points from the email about the harms of the motion from a gender justice perspective. It was very valuable for prepping my remarks."

Gender-based violence: WTC successfully advocated for changes to Vancouver’s liquor permitting bylaw. We pushed for stronger support for gender-based violence prevention as liquor establishment hours were expanded.

Libraries: WTC alerted WTC members about a motion to increase funding for libraries. Fifteen WTC members wrote to council, sharing how access to libraries supports their sense of belonging and community.

Public washrooms: We supported 20 WTC members to write and speak to council, and successfully advocated for more free public washrooms across the city. WTC was also quoted in CTV News

Advisory committees: WTC successfully organized against proposals to eliminate city advisory committees— twice. These committees bring equity-deserving community expertise into municipal decision-making.

Equity in Vancouver’s city budget: WTC opposed the City of Vancouver’s proposed 0% property tax increase in the 2026 budget and called for a transparent budget. WTC mobilized community organizations to speak out against cuts to sustainability and climate strategies, and to raise concerns about the health and equity impacts of budget reductions. A record 600 people signed up to speak at city hall about the budget.

Accessibility and public participation: WTC spoke at Vancouver City Council in favour of the "Prioritizing Accessibility and Public Participation at City Council" motion, which passed unanimously.

Women’s Equity Strategy: After the closure of Vancouver's Equity Office, WTC advocated for motions to ensure accountability for the Women’s Equity Strategy and to establish a Gender-based Violence task force, including speaking to CTV.

OUR 2025 IMPACT

In 2025, we held two truths at once: this was our most impactful year yet, and it has also been increasingly challenging to advance gender justice and equity in a landscape of rising violence, bigotry, misinformation, threats to democracy, and reduced funding.

This report tells the story of what’s possible when we refuse to accept injustice and instead build toward the communities we need.
