We also campaigned and supported our members in taking action on:
✅ Vancouver’s Trans, Two-Spirit and Gender Diverse Safety Plan motion (motion passed)
✅ Pressuring Vancouver City Council not to suspend the work of the Integrity Commissioner (successful)
✅ A motion to expand tree canopy in Vancouver (passed)
✅ Protecting Vancouver’s civic advisory committees (positive amendments approved)
✅ Maintaining Vancouver’s restrictions on methane in new buildings (proposal to reverse gas ban failed)
✅ Expanding bus lanes in Burnaby (passed)
✅ Ending fossil fuel sponsorship at UBCM (ongoing)
✅ Funding implementation of the TRC Calls to Action (ongoing)
✅ Increasing funding for public washrooms (ongoing)
We supported:
Civil liberty organizations in speaking to a motion on transparency and accountability and in opposing a motion expanding VPD surveillance.
100+ Vancouver-based organizations with guidance on how to influence the annual budget.
The Coordinated Community Response Network on how to address a motion about the Downtown Eastside.
Community-led advocacy efforts to keep Downtown Eastside Washrooms open.
The Transit for Teens campaign on outreach to progressive councillors for advocacy motions.
Climate organizers in navigating city hall processes when successfully preventing Vancouver’s reversal of its gas ban.
WTC sent advocacy letters to:
The City of North Vancouver in support of improved caretaker leave policy and compensation.
The District of Squamish on the gender impacts of the proposed ‘floatel’ for pipeline workers.
The City of Langford in support of free transit for young people in BC.
Premier David Eby on establishing a mandate for the Minister of Municipal Affairs to increase accountability for the harmful behaviour of elected local officials.
The City of Vancouver urging them to stay the course on climate and building decarbonization.
