Women Friendly Cities Challenge: Batticaloa Takes the Lead

July 2018

Celene Fung, WTC Board Member helped the Municipality of Batticaloa, Sri Lanka launch a Women Friendly Cities Challenge (WFCC). The objectives of the WFCC are to identify issues and set priorities that specifically impact women;  guide municipal budgets; and develop responsive programs and city infrastructure. The WFCC will also establish engagement opportunities for women and community stakeholders to provide input into decision making processes. Making Batticaloa ”women friendly” will make the community more responsive to the needs of women, vulnerable members of society, family and children.
