Vancouver
Iona Bonamis 陶思穎 is a proud second generation Chinese-Canadian, born and raised in the unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. She is thankful to be able to live, work and raise her two young boys with her husband in these territories now known as East Vancouver.
Iona is an active community member and change facilitator, always focusing on solutions that help create more livable, equitable, and sustainable communities. She has worked for the public, private sector, and non-profit sectors, and she is currently a Lead Planner at TransLink and previously a senior transportation planner at the City of Vancouver. As such, she has a deep understanding of how the City and region run and function, and how policies are made and turned into action.
She also owns her own small business, where she helps people reduce toxins in their home and live greener, healthier lifestyles. She also sits on the Trout Lake Community Centre Board of Directors and is a former board member and chair for non-profit organization Connecting Environmental Professionals.
Iona is passionate about implementing solutions that will help us mitigate and adapt to climate change, creating communities that are diverse, inclusive and equitable, and ensuring the City is affordable and welcoming to all people, regardless of their background.
She also practices what she preaches. Raising her kids in a multi-racial family, she actively demonstrates and encourages her kids to embrace and celebrate differences between individuals and cultures.
