Tasha Henderson

She/Her

Impact

Tasha was a board member at WTC from 2016 to 2020. Tasha was involved in numerous actions and built early relationships with councillors in the Lower Mainland, and brought a deep anti-poverty lens to the organization. She contributed greatly to WTC’s first funded project.  She continues to support the organization as an ambassador and New Westminster City Councillor.

Bio

Tasha has worked across Canada with non-profit agencies, non-governmental organizations, and in the public sector to build a portfolio that ranges from direct-service to managing diverse strategic planning and community development projects on issues such as housing, poverty reduction, youth, and civic engagement. Tasha is particularly interested in social policy and planning that supports reconciliation, decolonization, climate action, and gender equity in our communities.

Craving lasting systemic change, Tasha made a move from direct-service roles and returned to school in 2013 to complete a Master’s Degree in Planning. This is the moment she became a bonafide Policy Wonk. As a particularly loud-mouthed public servant, she only lasted a handful of years working for cities before running for City Council in New Westminster. Tasha was elected in October 2022 and is committed to bringing forward bold, ambitious policy change at the local level.

Personally, Tasha excels at researching family board games, losing her keys, and over-thinking. She openly weeps at community parades, youth delegations to Council, and sometimes while taking public transit (it’s just so beautiful to all be travelling together, isn’t it?!). During her time on the Board, WTC was a crucial professional outlet for her, but the Board also became a lifeline and a family to her, with her toddler and infant attending most meetings and rallies. She is forever grateful for the path WTC sent her down and is so proud of the immense growth and success of the organization since then. Three cheers for all of you.
